HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – The parents of a 16-year-old girl are grappling with unimaginable grief after their daughter, Arielle Elliott, was found dead in a nature preserve near her home. Authorities have charged her ex-boyfriend, also 16, with first-degree murder. Arielle had reportedly sneaked out to meet him, unaware of the tragic fate that awaited her.
The shocking incident unfolded just two weeks after Arielle’s sweet 16 celebration, leaving her family and community in disbelief. Sheriff Al Nihi described the crime scene at Cypress Lakes Preserve as a place of intense violence and passion, indicating the brutality of the act. “It was an altercation with an edged weapon,” he stated, emphasizing the severity of the attack.
Arielle’s parents revealed that she and the suspect had ended their relationship about six months ago. Although the investigation is ongoing, authorities currently believe that no one else was involved in the crime. However, they have not ruled out the possibility entirely.
The suspect, whose name remains undisclosed pending charges as an adult, has a prior arrest for battery from the previous year.
