A 21-year-old woman is charged with shooting a border patrol agent

BURLINGTON, VT – A Minnesota native and U.S. Border Patrol agent, David Christmas, was shot and killed in Vermont last week. Federal prosecutors have charged 21-year-old Theresa Youngblood in connection with the incident, which has revealed potential links to other violent acts across the country.

Youngblood appeared before a federal judge in Vermont on Monday, facing two weapons charges related to the deadly encounter. Authorities allege that Youngblood may have connections to individuals involved in homicides in both California and Pennsylvania. A German male, who was with her during the incident, also died.

Surveillance footage from a Vermont hotel shows Youngblood with her German companion shortly before the tragic events unfolded on Interstate 91. As investigators work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the shooting, they have uncovered alarming evidence suggesting broader criminal connections.

Court documents reveal that the individual who allegedly purchased firearms for Youngblood and her companion is a person of interest in a dual homicide investigation in Pennsylvania. This person has been in frequent contact with someone detained in the Pennsylvania murders, who is also a suspect in a California homicide.

In the vehicle used by Youngblood and her companion, investigators discovered a cache of items including a ballistic helmet, night vision goggles, respirators, ammunition, and two-way radios. Additionally, they found electronic devices and travel documents spanning multiple states, along with what appears to be a journal.

Seattle police shared a report from May 2024, filed by Youngblood’s family, expressing concern over her sudden departure and fear she might be in a controlling relationship. The FBI continues to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting, which occurred just south of the Canadian border.

Youngblood’s public defender has not yet responded to requests for comment. She is scheduled to return to court on Thursday as the investigation continues to unravel the complex web of potential connections and motives behind the shooting.
