BROOKLYN, NY – A tragic accident unfolded in a Brooklyn neighborhood, leaving a community in mourning. A young mother and her children were enjoying a leisurely stroll when a horrific multi-vehicle collision claimed the lives of the mother and two of her children, while a third child remains in critical condition.
The incident occurred when a gray Toyota Camry attempted a right turn onto Ocean Parkway, where it was struck by a blue Audi traveling northbound. The impact halted the Camry, but the Audi continued its deadly trajectory, hitting the family. The mother, 35, and her daughters, aged six and eight, were killed instantly, while her four-year-old son was critically injured. The Audi overturned, and its driver, 32-year-old Miriam Yarimi, was rescued by firefighters and taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
Authorities revealed that Yarimi was driving with a suspended license. A breath test was being conducted to determine if intoxication played a role in the crash. Investigators are scrutinizing the traffic light sequence, suspecting that speed and possibly running a red light may have been contributing factors.
The collision investigation squad is collaborating with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office to piece together the events leading to the tragedy. The driver of the Camry, a 62-year-old man, was admitted to Coney Island Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His passengers, a mother and her three children, sustained minor injuries and were treated at Kings County Hospital.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with one bystander recounting the immediate aftermath, noting how onlookers rushed to help and called emergency services. The gravity of the situation has left many in the tight-knit community grappling with shock and sadness.
Mayor Eric Adams plans to visit the surviving family members in the hospital, urging patience as the investigation continues.
