SAN ANTONIO, TX – A harrowing incident unfolded on the morning of April 23rd when a woman taking her routine walk down Prescott Drive was suddenly besieged by three aggressive dogs. The shocking episode, captured on security footage, depicts a terrifying struggle as the woman fought desperately against the relentless animals.
The attack began around 8:30 a.m., and within moments, passing vehicles halted, with drivers honking in an attempt to deter the dogs. Despite the commotion, the woman battled the dogs alone for several grueling minutes until a passing neighbor, Pete Ramos Jr., intervened.
Ramos, a Vietnam veteran, was quick to act despite his own health challenges. “I just knew I needed to help her because that lady was fighting for her life,” he recounted. Armed with his walking stick, Ramos managed to strike one of the dogs, allowing the woman a moment of respite. “If that was my daughter, I’d hope someone would help her too,” he added.
As the chaos subsided, Ramos helped the injured woman to safety. She was severely wounded, with lacerations covering her body, and faced a potential fracture. The victim’s attorney, Christopher Garza of the Gowan Law Group, emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that these aggressive dogs pose a significant threat to neighborhood safety.
Garza revealed that his client has already undergone several surgeries, with more anticipated as she continues her recovery. He vowed to hold both the pet owner and homeowner accountable for the incident, underscoring the need for responsible pet ownership.
Ramos reflected on the incident with humility, grateful that he could provide aid when it was needed most. “God put me at the right place at the right time,” he said, acknowledging the serendipity of his intervention.
In the aftermath, Animal Care Services issued 10 criminal citations to the dog’s owner. The dogs involved in the attack have since been euthanized, a grim outcome of the tragic event.
