FERGUS FALLS, MN – In a small Minnesota town, a mother’s worst nightmare came true when an armed man entered her home, leaving her and her young daughter in terror. The intruder, identified as Kelly Zent, roamed through the house, a loaded rifle in hand, while the family dog barked frantically. Despite the chaos, Zent bizarrely called for help, adding to the confusion.
Olivia Lumpky, the mother, recounted the terrifying ordeal, describing how she encountered Zent in her hallway before retreating to her bedroom to call the police. Zent, undeterred, smashed through her bedroom door with his rifle and attempted to enter her daughter’s room, prompting Lumpky to plead for her child’s safety.
Police arrived 22 minutes later, detaining Zent, whose family revealed he suffers from severe paranoia and had not been taking his medication. However, in a twist that left Lumpky and her neighbors unsettled, Zent was released after just three days in jail due to a probation violation tied to a previous DWI.
Zent’s home is alarmingly close to Lumpky’s, a fact that exacerbates her fear. “It’s shocking that someone can invade your home with a gun and be back on the street so quickly,” she said, highlighting her ongoing anxiety.
The incident has sparked discussions in the community about safety and the legal system’s handling of such cases. Zent faces multiple charges, including burglary and assault, and is set to appear in court next week.
