Anti-war protesters block access to Air Force base

TAMPA, FL – Israeli forces intensified their operations in Gaza, targeting what they claim are Hamas surveillance sites. The European Union is considering sanctions to pressure Israel into halting the conflict. Meanwhile, the Palestinian health authority, controlled by Hamas, reports a death toll exceeding 65,000.

Tensions flared at MacDill Air Force Base as protesters rallied against U.S. involvement in the Israeli-Hamas conflict. Five demonstrators were arrested after blocking a street, displaying signs that read “Veterans Against Genocide.” The group, Veterans for Peace, called for an end to U.S. financial and military support for Israel, accusing it of excessive brutality in Gaza.

International organizations have criticized Israel’s occupation, citing humanitarian crises that some label as genocidal. While former President Trump expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s military strategies, these protesters urge the U.S. to take stronger action.

“Our tax dollars are funding the bombing of innocent civilians,” a protester stated, highlighting the plight of men, women, and children caught in the crossfire. The Israeli occupation of Gaza followed Hamas’s attacks on October 7, 2023, which claimed the lives of 1,200 Israelis, including 736 civilians, and led to 250 hostages being taken by Hamas.

The continued conflict has resulted in over 200,000 casualties in Gaza, affecting 10% of its population. Although the Trump Administration supports Israel’s right to self-defense, it has expressed frustration over the absence of a ceasefire agreement.

Protesters arrested at MacDill face charges including obstruction and resisting arrest. The demonstration underscores growing domestic discontent with U.S. foreign policy in the region.
