A 32-year-old man armed robber was shot dead by a senior citizen early Wednesday morning. The incident occurred close to the Queens Criminal Court in Kew Gardens, according to law enforcement officials.
The younger man allegedly confronted a 65-year-old individual with an unidentified object. In response, the older man withdrew his firearm and discharged multiple shots, striking the 32-year-old in the chest. Medical emergency services arrived shortly after, but he man was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the aftermath, the older man was taken into custody, pending further inquiries. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, the identities of both individuals have been temporarily withheld by the New York Police Department. The decedent’s identity will be disclosed following notification of his next of kin.
This incident during a surge of violence in the area. Only weeks prior, Queens was shaken by two separate shootings, one of which saw a teenager tragically lose his life to a stray bullet, while another led to a man fatally injuring his nephew and wounding his niece in a heated family dispute.
