TOLLESON, AZ – An unsettling incident unfolded Monday afternoon just after the final school bell rang. An 11-year-old girl was attacked on her way home when a man attempted to grab her near 87th Avenue and Van Buren Street. Quick-thinking and courage helped her escape the frightening encounter.
Detective Gerardo Ruiz described the incident as unusual, noting that the girl did everything right by following safety protocols taught at school, such as running and seeking help. Witnesses reported that the suspect fled the scene by boarding a bus shortly after the attempted abduction.
Local resident Jasmine Hudson recognized the suspect, indicating that he is often seen in the neighborhood. She expressed shock, having never considered him a threat. Hudson’s daughter and niece attend Arizona Desert Elementary, where the incident took place.
The event has left many parents in the community on edge. Hudson shared her newfound apprehension, saying she now accompanies her daughter on walks to and from school.
