BURIEN, WA – A man faces murder charges in connection with the brutal killings of his ex-girlfriend and her roommate, authorities said. The violent incident occurred at the Montrose Apartments last week, leaving the community in shock.
Initially, the suspect, Marvin Ortiz Montesinos, claimed he was the victim of a home invasion. He alleged that an intruder had attacked him and killed the two women. However, investigators quickly dismissed his account, uncovering evidence that pointed to Ortiz Montesinos himself as the perpetrator.
Police responded to frantic calls about an injured man screaming for help. Upon arrival, they found two women dead inside the apartment. Despite the suspect’s initial claims, detectives soon determined that the tragic events stemmed from a tumultuous breakup.
Ortiz Montesinos is accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Victoria Cruz, shortly after a heated argument about their relationship ending. Prosecutors allege he stabbed Cruz 20 times. Her roommate, who was an unintended victim, was brutally attacked with more than 40 stab wounds.
The roommate, identified as Gomez, was caught in the violence while exiting the shower. Her brother, Dario Gomez, expressed through an interpreter that he hopes justice will be served, calling for the maximum possible sentence.
Investigators described the crime scene as horrific, noting the severity of the injuries. The wounds were so deep, it appeared the suspect intended to inflict maximum harm. The murder weapon was later discovered hidden near the apartment complex.
Ortiz Montesinos, who has family ties in Guatemala, including a wife and children, was deemed a flight risk. Consequently, prosecutors requested a $10 million bail, underscoring his potential to flee the country.
The suspect’s brother, who was reportedly in the Seattle area at the time of the murders, has since returned to Guatemala. Ortiz Montesinos remains in custody, held on the substantial bail amount.
