PHILADELPHIA, PA – A homicide investigation is in progress following the death of a Philadelphia firefighter found in a home early Tuesday. Authorities have detained one individual connected to the incident.
The firefighter, a 56-year-old man, was discovered on the 4700 block of Shell Avenue in the Holmesburg neighborhood just before 4 a.m. Police have not yet released his identity. The tragic news has left family and friends reeling, and many have been seen visiting the scene, though too distraught to speak.
Upon arrival, officers found the firefighter with severe injuries. Homicide detectives are actively investigating, and the victim was confirmed as an active-duty firefighter.
A 27-year-old person was found on the porch of the residence and is currently being questioned by homicide detectives. The individual reportedly made statements regarding events inside the home.
The cause of death is pending determination by the medical examiner. Detectives have been examining the home for evidence throughout the morning.
Authorities indicated that a physical confrontation occurred inside the property, ruling out gunfire but suggesting the possibility of strangulation.
The firefighter’s body was respectfully escorted by police and fire personnel to the medical examiner’s office.
