Former news anchor stabbed mother to death on Halloween

WICHITA, KS – A former St. Louis morning show anchor, once a familiar face for early risers, is now facing shocking allegations of stabbing her mother to death on Halloween. The tranquil neighborhood of Wichita was left reeling after the incident involving 47-year-old Angeline Mock.

Neighbors described a distressing scene as Mock emerged from a home shortly before 8 a.m., covered in blood. Alyssa Castro, a nearby resident, recounted to local media how Mock flagged down her and her boyfriend, seized his phone, and retreated indoors to call authorities. She reportedly claimed she stabbed her mother to “save herself.”

When Wichita Police arrived, they found Mock outside with cuts on her hands. Inside, her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, was discovered unresponsive with multiple stab wounds. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Avers succumbed to her injuries shortly after.

Mock was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, held on a $1 million bond at the Sedgwick County Jail. Her past career included a stint as a fill-in anchor at KTVI Fox 2 from 2011 to 2015. She later transitioned to various sales roles in St. Louis before joining a data management firm in Wichita.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet revealed a motive for the crime.
