Man arrested for shooting and killing his neighbor

LONG BEACH, CA – A 64-year-old man, John Higginbotham, has been arrested by Long Beach police under suspicion of fatally shooting his neighbor. The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 12:35 p.m. in the 700 block of East First Street.

The Long Beach Police Department released reports of the disturbing incident. Officers who were dispatched to the scene discovered the victim suffering from multiple gunshot injuries to the upper body. Despite the immediate life-saving measures administered by first responders, the victim of the shooting ultimately succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Initial investigations indicate that Higginbotham resides in proximity to where the shooting took place. Law enforcement is currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the event, attempting to discern a potential motive.

The police are preparing to present the case to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office to formalize charges later in the week. The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
