Man attempts to kidnap 15-year-old girl he was following

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FL – A troubling incident unfolded in Northwest Miami-Dade when a man was arrested following accusations of attempting to kidnap a high school student. The alleged crime took place just after the girl stepped off her school bus, sparking concerns about student safety in the community.

The suspect, Paganini Florentine, faces multiple charges, including attempted kidnapping, assault, and trespassing in a school safety zone. Despite these charges, Florentine’s attorney argues that the accusations do not align with the severity of the charges, suggesting that at most, it should be considered a case of assault or battery.

Authorities say the 15-year-old girl was walking to pick up her younger brother when she noticed Florentine following her. According to police reports, Florentine allegedly called out to the girl and tried to grab her, prompting her to flee back to her school, Thomas Jefferson Biscayne Gardens Academy, for safety.

In court, Florentine’s defense argued that his actions were not indicative of kidnapping intentions, but rather an attempt to get the girl’s attention. They claim that trying to grab someone does not constitute an attempt to kidnap, especially during daylight and in a public area.

Prosecutors, however, maintain that the girl was in fear for her life and believed Florentine intended to detain her against her will. The state insists that the charges reflect the seriousness of the situation and the fear experienced by the victim.

As the legal process unfolds, a probable cause hearing has been scheduled for next week to further evaluate the charges against Florentine. This hearing will be crucial in determining the next steps in the case.

The incident has raised alarms in the community, with parents and school officials emphasizing the need for increased security and vigilance around school zones. The safety of students remains a top priority as the case develops.
