CHARLOTTE, NC – A man from Huntersville, accused of assaulting four individuals along Charlotte’s Rail Trail, was released on bond this week, raising concerns among victims and local residents. The incident occurred earlier this month near Mainline Boulevard, with court records indicating that the suspect, Hayden James Davidson, 27, was freed on a $10,000 bond.
The assaults took place on September 6, and the arrest warrant details Davidson’s aggressive behavior, which included following a man and threatening him. One victim expressed anxiety over Davidson’s release, fearing for their safety and the community’s.
Chris Balance, a regular on the Rail Trail, recalled the unsettling atmosphere the incident created. “It would be terrifying,” he said, reflecting on the fear of encountering such violence in a familiar setting.
The situation escalated quickly, according to records. Davidson allegedly punched two women, leaving one injured, and a bystander who attempted to intervene had their glasses broken. This is not Davidson’s first legal issue; in 2017, he faced charges for assaulting Iredell County deputies.
One victim, who preferred not to be identified, shared their discomfort with Davidson’s release, emphasizing the need for vigilance in public spaces. They expressed frustration that despite the frequent occurrence of such incidents, it remains challenging to feel secure.
The community remains on edge as they await a hearing scheduled for November, where further details of the case will be examined. The situation has sparked discussions on public safety and the justice system’s handling of repeat offenders.
Residents continue to express a desire for change, hoping that increased awareness and preventive measures can help mitigate such incidents in the future.
