BIRMINGHAM, AL – A tragic event unfolded at a local nightclub Saturday night, resulting in the deaths of four people and injuries to several others. According to the Birmingham Police Department, the shooting occurred at around 11:08 p.m. on 27th Street North, where a birthday celebration was taking place.
Authorities arrived at the scene to find a chilling sight: one man deceased on the sidewalk and two women dead inside the nightclub. A fourth victim, a man rushed to the hospital, was later pronounced dead. The slain individuals were later identified by police as Lerandus Anderson, 24; Stevie McGhee, 39; Markeisha Gettings, 42; and Angela Weatherspoon, 56.
In addition to the fatalities, ten other partygoers sustained gunshot wounds and were treated at UAB Hospital. Some victims were transported by emergency services, while others arrived via private vehicles.
The Birmingham police reported that the shooting stemmed from at least one assailant firing shots into the nightclub from the street, following a disturbance inside the venue. The exact nature of the altercation and its connection to the tragic events is still under investigation.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and police are urging anyone who has information about the incident to come forward. Federal law enforcement agencies are also involved in the ongoing investigation, assisting local police.
