Massive fire destroys country club

HAMMONTON, NJ – A devastating fire, possibly triggered by an explosion, has razed the Frog Rock Golf and Country Club in Hammonton, New Jersey. Firefighters responded to the scene overnight, where they encountered intense flames engulfing the building. Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the blaze.

The fire erupted early Tuesday morning, leaving the country club, known for hosting weddings and events, in ruins. The owner, Rocky Colasurdo, expressed his sorrow, recalling the venue’s history and significance. “My whole life went through my mind,” Colasurdo said, reflecting on the years he dedicated to the club.

Witnesses reported a loud boom that woke them up, and the fire chief noted that the open spaces within the building contributed to the rapid spread of the flames. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the building was unoccupied at the time.

Colasurdo, who has devoted over five decades to the club, is leaving the decision to rebuild up to his daughters. Despite the loss, he remains grateful for the years spent at the venue, likening it to “another kid.”

The fire also destroyed nearby golf carts and spread to the surrounding greens. “It was a great, great life here,” Colasurdo shared, hopeful for a few more years of memories.

Events scheduled at the venue, including an upcoming wedding, have been relocated, and refunds are being issued. The owner has already arranged an alternative venue for the displaced couple.

While investigators work to determine the cause, plans for demolition remain undecided. However, Colasurdo is optimistic about resuming golf activities by tomorrow.
