SURPRISE, AZ – A military serviceman has been fatally shot following a suspected road rage encounter in Surprise on Saturday afternoon. An 18-year-old male is now in custody in connection to the incident. According to the Surprise Police Department, several 911 calls around 1:30 p.m. reported a man shot in the vicinity of 163rd and Grand Avenues.
Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered 33-year-old James Nicholas Solano-Aguilar, reportedly suffering from multiple gunshot injuries to his upper torso. Rushed to the hospital, Solano-Aguilar later succumbed to his injuries. Surprise police confirmed the victim was an active military member.
Identified from witnesses’ details, the suspected shooter, Jaidev Christian Spicely, had fled the scene before officers arrived. However, Surprise police report that Spicely later contacted them, expressing intent to surrender. He was subsequently apprehended.
Charges of second-degree murder, disorderly conduct with a weapon, as well as the discharge of a firearm within city limits have all been filed against Spicely.
In the wake of road rage incidents, authorities advise avoiding confrontation, focusing on safe driving, and establishing a distance from the aggressive driver. If drivers feel threatened or notice dangerous practices, police should be contacted.
