GAITHERSBURG, MD – A large-scale search conducted over 24 hours in Gaithersburg, Maryland, ended in tragedy when the body of a missing 6-year-old boy, Fawzan Hassan, was found on Sunday. The pond in Bohrer Park, where the non-verbal and autistic boy and his family had enjoyed a community event the day before, became the grim scene of discovery.
Devastatingly, while partaking in what was an innocent day out, Hassan disappeared from the playground area. His family reached out to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) and a search operation was quickly set into motion.
More than 200 individuals, comprised of police officers from multiple agencies as well as volunteers from the local community, committed themselves to the search for the young boy. The efforts, however, came to an unfortunate conclusion with the discovery of Hassan’s body.
While the boy’s family grieve by the body of water that claimed their son’s life, the community is also deeply impacted as they come to terms with the tragic event. One local parent, Nightingale, expressed his fears, stating that he will be holding his child tighter.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Hassan’s untimely death continues as the Montgomery County Police Department appeals for anyone with information to come forward.
