Mom, daughter, and dog found dead in apartment, investigation underway

BROOKLYN, NY – A mother and her teenage daughter were discovered dead in their East Flatbush apartment, sparking an ongoing investigation. The NYPD was alerted by concerned neighbors who reported hearing disturbing noises from the apartment last week. The mother and daughter had not been in contact with their neighbors since Friday, prompting a wellness check on Monday at their second-floor residence at 1296 New York Ave.

Upon arrival, officers were forced to break down the door to gain entry. Inside, they found a 37-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds and a 14-year-old girl who had suffered severe head trauma. A suffocated dog with a bag over its head was also discovered in the apartment.

A resident of the building reported hearing alarming sounds from the second-floor apartment on Friday morning around 7:20 a.m. He described the noises as loud and distressing, which led him to call 911 immediately. “We heard screaming. We heard the dog whimpering,” the resident, Steve Schor, recounted. Despite the police’s arrival and hearing music from the apartment, no one answered the door.

Another long-term resident expressed her shock and fear at the incident. “That’s just absolutely horrible. I’ve lived here 26 years and nothing like this has happened,” she said.

According to neighbors, the building is relatively new, and the mother and daughter had only been living there for about three to four months. As of now, the police have not made any arrests, and no suspects are in custody.
