Mother’s car stolen with her child in the back seat

SOUTH RICHMOND HILL, NY – A seemingly ordinary laundromat visit in Queens took a dramatic turn when a mother’s car, with her young daughter inside, was stolen, setting off a frantic citywide search. The unsettling episode unfolded on a brisk winter evening, leaving the community on edge and police on high alert.

The incident began when the mother parked her red Acura outside the laundromat on 101st Avenue, leaving it running while she stepped inside to retrieve her laundry. In those brief moments, an opportunistic thief jumped in and sped away, unaware or indifferent to the four-year-old girl in the backseat.

A few tense hours later, the nightmare ended with a relief-filled reunion. The car was found abandoned just blocks away, the child unharmed but understandably shaken. Thanks to the quick response from police, who deployed helicopters and numerous patrol cars, the situation was resolved without physical harm.

Witnesses to the reunion described it as an emotional and heartwarming scene. “Seeing them together again, it was just amazing,” said Daniel Rafael, who watched as the mother embraced her daughter tightly.

The child underwent a precautionary check-up by medical personnel and was declared safe. Meanwhile, authorities searched the vehicle for clues, as the perpetrators had made their escape in another car.

The incident has prompted local law enforcement to remind residents of the risks associated with leaving cars running and unattended, even briefly. The mother, though shaken, expressed immense gratitude that her daughter was unharmed and eager to return home.

A laundromat employee, familiar with the family, shared the community’s collective relief, noting, “She’s safe, and that’s all that matters. She’ll have a joyful holiday.”

While the mother faces no charges, police are actively searching for the two men involved, who could face kidnapping charges. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage in hopes of identifying the suspects.

The community remains vigilant as authorities continue their efforts to locate the culprits, urging anyone with information to come forward.
