RICHMOND, TX – A tragic collision between a train and a dump truck in Fort Bend County has led to a temporary shutdown of the railway as authorities investigate the cause of the accident. The incident occurred on Nelson Lane early this morning, resulting in the death of the dump truck driver.
Officials from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office are working to notify the victim’s family before releasing the driver’s identity. The investigation is focused on the road and railway conditions at the site, which lacks barriers, stop signs, or traffic lights at the railroad crossing. This absence of safety measures is a critical factor in determining why the dump truck was on the tracks when the train approached.
The collision occurred shortly before 7 a.m. when the train struck the dump truck at the crossing, killing the driver instantly. Video footage captured emergency responders transporting an individual to an ambulance, though the details of their involvement remain unclear.
