SPARTA TOWNSHIP, PA – Pennsylvania State Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the death of a young Amish woman in her home, describing it as a possible “criminal homicide.” The police received a call at 12:26 p.m. on February 26. According to an official release, this call led officers to a Sparta Township residence.
Police have provided a scarce amount of details about the fatal incident. However, it has emerged that officers found a deceased woman who was 23 years old. She also belonged to the Amish community, according to police reports.
The victim, yet to be formally identified, was six months pregnant, her family members told reporters. According to neighbors, the woman’s husband discovered her dead upon returning home. The couple’s two young children were also home during the incident but were unharmed.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a red Jeep driving down the home’s adjacent dirt road. It was also spotted parked in the driveway around 10 a.m. Investigators are focusing on the woman’s activities preceding her death, though they admitted to having limited leads. No suspects have been identified in the case as of yet.
Sparta Township, located approximately 120 miles north of Pittsburgh, is inhabited by around 1,900 people.
