Pregnant Woman Killed in Botched Robbery Attempt During Drug Deal in Chicago

A seven-month pregnant woman was shot and killed during a botched robbery attempt that led to a gunfight during a drug deal. The incident took place in Chicago on Monday afternoon.

Genesis Escobar, 21, was shot multiple times in a residential area on the northwest side of the city, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Escobar had entered a vehicle and attempted to rob the passengers, prompting her boyfriend to engage in a gunfight with them, according to local law enforcement officials.

Escobar’s back, shoulder, and hand were hit by bullets during the shootout. Her baby did not survive the shooting, according to friends of Escobar. A witness of the incident reported that the perpetrators threw money on top of Escobar’s body before driving off.

No suspects have been arrested yet, and detectives are continuing to investigate the crime.

The incident highlights the continued problem of gun violence in Chicago, which has seen 85 murders and 326 shooting incidents so far this year alone, according to the Chicago Police Department’s most recent crime statistics.
