MILWAUKEE, WI – A tragic incident unfolded in Milwaukee on Sunday when a 74-year-old property owner was fatally stabbed while attempting to make repairs on one of his properties. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner identified the victim as David Gross, a well-known figure in the Concordia Historic District community.
Authorities have taken a 37-year-old man into custody in connection with the stabbing. The suspect was apprehended in West Allis after contacting the police himself. The arrest has left friends and neighbors of Gross in disbelief, as they grapple with the loss of a man they describe as incredibly generous and community-oriented.
Charles Harris, a longtime friend of Gross, recounted how the victim had shown him kindness during a difficult period in his life. Gross had offered Harris support and friendship, a gesture that left a lasting impact. “Dave had a remarkable way of touching people’s lives,” Harris said, visibly emotional as he remembered their bond.
Another neighbor, Scott, shared his sorrow, highlighting Gross’s role not just as a neighbor but as a friend who was always willing to lend a hand. “It’s hard to imagine that tomorrow I won’t be able to see him or talk to him,” Scott lamented. Gross was known for his skills in home repairs, often assisting others in the neighborhood with various projects.
In the Concordia Historic District, where Gross rented out properties and lived, tenants and neighbors remembered him as a friendly and resourceful individual. “He could fix just about anything,” one tenant noted. “If he didn’t know how, he’d learn.”
Robert Bauman, the district’s alderman, had known Gross since 1997. He recalled their frequent discussions about house projects and community improvements. Bauman expressed shock over the violent incident, questioning what could have led to such an act against someone who was simply trying to help.
The community now faces the challenge of moving forward without Gross, a man who contributed significantly to the neighborhood’s spirit. Neighbors are considering ways to honor his memory, possibly through acts of kindness that reflect Gross’s own generous nature.
As the investigation continues, the community remains united in their pride and support for one another. They hope to keep Gross’s legacy alive by fostering the sense of community he championed.
