Rescue teams searching for man after truck washed away in flash flood

GOODYEAR, AZ – The small community of Rainbow Valley remains united as they continue the search for Vince Upton, a local man swept away by floodwaters early Sunday morning. The relentless rush of water makes the search increasingly challenging, but residents hold onto hope.

Divided by the ferocity of the roaring rapids, the community is simultaneously brought together by a shared purpose: to find Upton. Across the wash, friends and strangers alike have joined forces, led by Upton’s best friend, in a tireless effort to bring him home.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving a call at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday about a man being swept away. Helicopters have been deployed in the search, but the fast-moving waters complicate efforts.

Local volunteers, including individuals with drones, have been scouring the area. A group of residents gathered to search the northern part of the wash, determined to leave no stone unturned.

Upton’s car was discovered half a mile downstream, its windshield kicked out, suggesting Upton’s desperate attempt to escape. The search continued late into Sunday night, with helicopters and volunteers combing the area.

Family members and community volunteers remain resolute, scouring the banks of the wash and hoping for a miracle. Despite the fluid barrier of rushing water, the community feels like a family united in their quest.

The Sheriff’s Office concluded their official search for the night, but local volunteers persist, including those from outside Rainbow Valley. Their determination underscores a collective resilience and hope to bring Upton back to his loved ones.
