Teens as young as 13 arrested for 27 crimes including a string of armed robberies

KATY, TX – A wave of juvenile crime has alarmed residents and law enforcement officials in Katy, Texas, following a series of aggravated robberies carried out by a group of minors. In just two days, five teenagers, most of them only 13 years old, allegedly targeted four convenience stores and a restaurant, brandishing firearms and assaulting victims.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into these incidents, which occurred between May 6 and May 7 along Katy Fort Bend Road, King’s Lynn Boulevard, and Mason Road. Authorities describe the crimes as a disturbing trend that was once rare in the area, where juvenile gangs now seem to operate with increasing frequency and boldness.

Victim Services Director Andy Kahn from Houston Crime Stoppers expressed concern over the rising number of juvenile robberies, noting that over 90 such incidents have been reported in Harris County alone in 2025. Kahn pointed out that many young offenders appear to believe they can evade serious consequences, as juvenile sentences are often lenient compared to adult penalties.

The recent arrests in Katy have resulted in the teenagers facing 27 charges, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and engaging in organized crime. They have been detained at the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center as the investigation continues.

The situation has sparked a debate about the factors contributing to the surge in juvenile crime, with some attributing it to a lack of deterrence in the juvenile justice system. Others argue that societal issues, such as economic disparity and lack of community resources, may be driving these youths toward criminal activities.

As the community grapples with these alarming developments, law enforcement officials emphasize the need for a comprehensive approach to address the root causes of juvenile crime. They advocate for increased collaboration between law enforcement, social services, and educational institutions to prevent future incidents and guide at-risk youth away from criminal paths.

Residents in Katy and surrounding areas are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities as the investigation unfolds. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office continues to gather evidence and monitor the situation closely, promising to provide updates as more information becomes available.
