SOUTH TACOMA, WA – An overnight altercation outside a bar in South Tacoma led to three people being hospitalized after a stabbing incident early Saturday morning. Authorities have detained one suspect, and all victims are expected to survive their injuries.
The disturbance began around 2 a.m. on the 5400 block of South Tacoma Way. A witness described the night as initially uneventful, with a group of women being asked to leave the premises due to disruptive behavior. However, the situation escalated once the bar closed, leading to violence outside.
Kelly Walton, who witnessed the incident, recounted how a security guard intervened to assist a woman in distress, only to be attacked. “One spark seemed to ignite another,” Walton said, noting the chaotic nature of the scene.
The security guard was stabbed, while two others suffered slashes to the face and side. Police responded promptly, managing to apprehend one individual connected to the violence.
Walton praised the efforts of his staff, expressing frustration that a single individual’s actions could disrupt the peace. “This is my life’s work,” he said, emphasizing the dedication of his team.
Local residents expressed shock over the incident, describing it as unusual for the neighborhood. “I’ve been in this area for over 20 years, and this kind of thing is rare,” one community member remarked.
Despite recent improvements in the area, the neighborhood has experienced occasional violence. Records indicate two fatal shootings occurred nearby within the past two years.
Community members voiced concerns about addressing such incidents. “What are we going to do about it?” one resident questioned, advocating for peace and understanding over retaliation.
