NEW CITY, NY – Two teenagers are in custody following a dramatic police chase that unfolded in Rockland County, starting from a quiet street in New City and ending with a crash in Stony Point. The incident began when a 16-year-old attempted to break a car window, leading to a series of events that endangered lives across multiple towns.
The chase commenced after the teen, unable to shatter the window by hand, resorted to using a rock, damaging a vehicle belonging to another teenager. The reason behind targeting this specific car remains unknown, but the act set off a pursuit that spanned approximately 10 miles, weaving through neighborhoods and ending in chaos.
Residents were left in disbelief as the suspects drove erratically through backyards before crashing into a tree. “I couldn’t believe it,” said a local witness, recounting the surreal scene of the burgundy Acura speeding through the area not once, but twice.
Stony Point police revisited the site where the chase concluded around 3:45 p.m. the previous day. The car had navigated a narrow, dead-end street before barreling over a stone wall, causing further commotion among neighbors.
The incident was first reported by a New City homeowner who witnessed the initial act of vandalism. After calling 911, the homeowner followed the suspects, who eventually entered the Palisades Parkway. State police joined the pursuit as the teens exited in Stony Point, attempting to balance caution with urgency.
Authorities decided to call off the high-speed pursuit, opting instead to follow the suspects at a safer distance. This strategy allowed officers to monitor the situation without escalating the danger posed by the chase.
Fortunately, the ordeal concluded with no injuries reported. Due to the ages of the suspects, the case is being processed in Clarkstown Family Court. The teenagers face several charges, including felony criminal mischief.
