Two teens shot, one killed, at an elementary school

PHILADELPHIA, PA – A tragic incident unfolded in Philadelphia’s Logan neighborhood, where two teenagers were shot outside an elementary school, leaving one dead and the other injured. The shooting occurred just after 6 a.m. on the steps of Logan Elementary School, a place intended to be a safe haven for children.

Authorities reported that over 38 shots were fired during the altercation, though thankfully, none penetrated the building where staff and students were present at the time. The violence has left the community in shock, grappling with the reality of such an event occurring in a location meant for learning and safety.

John Brown, a local resident, expressed his heartbreak over the incident, recalling fond memories of playing on the same blacktop where the shooting took place. “It tears me apart,” he said, reflecting on the senseless violence that claimed the life of one young man and injured another.

The victims, identified as a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old male, were caught in the gunfire. The younger teen suffered gunshot wounds to his hand and legs and was transported to the hospital in stable condition. The older teen, however, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and torso and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators found evidence of two different calibers of bullets at the scene, indicating the use of two separate semi-automatic handguns. This discovery has left police searching for answers as they comb through surveillance footage from cameras installed around the school and neighborhood.

Members of the Philadelphia Anti-Drug Anti-Violence Network (PAN) were present at the scene, offering support to the grieving community. They emphasized the need for unity and action in the face of such tragic events, highlighting the frustration and desensitization felt by local residents.

Community members have voiced their concerns and called for change, seeking solutions to prevent further violence and protect their youth. “We need something different for our young people,” one resident urged, echoing the sentiments of many who live in the area.

As the investigation continues, police are hopeful that surveillance footage will provide crucial insights into the motive and circumstances surrounding the shooting. They remain committed to bringing those responsible to justice and restoring a sense of safety to the community.
