FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – A 20-year-old woman is facing charges following a fatal crash that occurred last year. Sofia Todorov appeared in court today, where she remains in custody at the Broward County Main Jail.
The incident took place on May 19, along Interstate 595 in the early morning hours. Court records indicate that Todorov was allegedly driving recklessly at the time of the crash.
Authorities revealed that data from the vehicle’s black box showed Todorov’s car reached a speed of 124.3 mph just one second before the impact. She is charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, and reckless driving causing property damage.
During the court proceedings, Todorov’s attorney argued that she was cut off by another vehicle, prompting her to brake in an attempt to avoid the collision.
Despite the defense’s claims, Todorov is facing multiple charges and is being held on a $65,000 bond. As part of her bail conditions, she must wear an ankle monitor.
The victim in the crash has been identified as an attorney, though further details about the individual have not been disclosed.
