ROSEVILLE, CA – A quiet neighborhood in Roseville is grappling with the shock of a death investigation that has left residents on edge. Last week, police discovered the body of 65-year-old Dominique Monique Law in a home on Richards Drive, unveiling a tragic story of escalating tension between two roommates.
Police were called for a welfare check when they found Law deceased. Her roommate and landlord, 61-year-old Mia Fisher, was arrested shortly after and charged with first-degree murder. Court records reveal the two women met through an online ad and became roommates in December 2024.
Initially, their relationship seemed amicable. Text exchanges showed they celebrated Christmas together and enjoyed evenings out. Fisher even described Law as pleasant company. However, by January, their relationship soured dramatically.
Law filed for a restraining order against Fisher, citing disturbing behavior and verbal abuse. She expressed fear for her safety, alleging Fisher’s behavior was becoming increasingly aggressive. Law specifically mentioned concerns about Fisher’s possession of a handgun.
The court granted Law a temporary restraining order, but tensions continued to rise. Law avoided common areas of the home due to cigarette smoke and harassment, including threatening notes left on her door. One note condemned Law’s behavior, despite her religious practices.
Neighbors suggest the situation was not premeditated, with financial disputes adding fuel to the fire. Fisher had filed a lawsuit against Law for over $12,000 in unpaid rent, demonstrating the financial strain between the two.
The Placer County District Attorney’s office confirmed that Law was last seen in court on June 2, the day she was allegedly killed. Her body was discovered nine days later, turning the once peaceful neighborhood into a scene of tragedy.
