Young couple killed by drunk driver

HOUSTON, TX – A tragic accident on Interstate 10 claimed the lives of a young couple early this morning, following a collision involving an intoxicated driver. The crash, which occurred near the Taylor Street exit, resulted in the closure of the Katy Freeway for several hours as authorities investigated the scene.

The victims were identified as Bianca Romero, 22, and her boyfriend, Christian Rangel. According to police reports, the couple’s Nissan sedan was rear-ended by a Tesla, causing their vehicle to burst into flames. The driver of the Tesla, who has not yet been named, faces two counts of intoxication manslaughter.

Family members of the victims are grappling with the sudden loss. Bianca’s sister, Blendy Romero, expressed her grief while holding Bianca’s pet dog. “She cared for everyone,” Blendy said, recounting the close bond she shared with her younger sister.

The family learned of the tragedy through a location app alert, which led them to the chaotic scene on the freeway. The couple had been returning home after visiting Bianca’s parents and a late-night workout.

Bianca had recently moved into a new apartment and was eagerly preparing for Thanksgiving. “She just ordered a table for the holiday,” Blendy shared. “She wanted us to come to her apartment.”

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the Tesla driver would be charged, and a passenger in the Tesla was hospitalized but is expected to recover. The driver will be officially named upon booking.

Bianca worked at a downtown restaurant and aspired to open her own coffee shop. “I hope they do justice for my sister,” Blendy said. “No one wants to go through this.”

Authorities continue to investigate the crash, while the community mourns the loss of two young lives full of promise.
