Mom and daughter shot dead in alleged murder-suicide

A Kansas mother and daughter were fatally shot, allegedly by the mother’s husband. The man then subsequently took his own life, according to the local police.

The horrific incident occurred just before 11 p.m. on May 18th in a Kansas City home. Kristy C. Thow, a 29-year-old resident of Shawnee, and her mother, Penny Smith, aged 50, both succumbed to their injuries in the hospital following what authorities are calling a “domestic shooting.”

Another individual was also injured during the incident. This third victim was treated at a hospital and has reportedly been discharged.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the body of Penny Smith’s husband, 51-year-old Christopher Smith. He appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A GoFundMe page has been established with the aim of providing financial assistance to Thow’s surviving daughter’s college fund and to offer support to the remaining family members.

The fundraising page, set up by a woman identifying herself as Kristy’s aunt, paints a picture of Kristy as a single mother with a heart of gold, raising her daughter Camilla and assisting in the upbringing of her sister’s children. The page highlights how she lost her life, facing multiple gunshots while attempting to protect her sister and mother from their abuser.

As stated on the fundraising platform, Penny Smith is survived by two more daughters and three grandchildren.

The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department is still actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this disturbing case.
