GLENWOOD SPRINGS, CO – An unsettling incident unfolded at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Colorado when a 20-year-old man was discovered deceased in a women’s restroom, equipped with an AR-style rifle, a semi-automatic handgun, body armor, and what appeared to be fake explosives in his vehicle. The discovery was made by park maintenance staff before the amusement park opened for the day.
The man’s identity has not been released, but he was found wearing black tactical clothing adorned with patches and emblems that gave the impression of a connection to law enforcement. The circumstances surrounding his presence at the park and his intentions remain largely unknown.
Written on a restroom wall near the man’s body were the words “I am not a killer” and “I just wanted to get into the caves.” However, investigators are not certain if the man authored the message, as there was additional text present that could not be deciphered.
Despite the presence of firearms, the man likely would not have been eligible to purchase them legally due to his age. Colorado had recently raised the minimum age for gun purchases to 21. The firearms he possessed appeared to be “ghost guns,” lacking serial numbers and typically assembled from kits.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, situated in Glenwood Springs in the Rocky Mountains, is a popular amusement park known for its thrill rides and extensive cave systems. The man was from the Carbondale area and is believed to have entered the park unlawfully.
While the man’s death is presumed to be a suicide, an autopsy has been scheduled to confirm the cause of death. Despite the patches on his clothing resembling law enforcement insignia, authorities do not believe he was a law enforcement officer.
Near the location of the body, investigators discovered fake hand grenades, a pipe bomb, and a fake improvised explosive device in his vehicle. Further investigations, including a review of the man’s cellphone, social media accounts, and interviews, will be conducted by law enforcement, with assistance from the FBI, to gain insights into the individual and his motives.
