A woman died and three others were injured in a five-car crash in Northeast Portland on Sunday, caused by an armed-robbery suspect fleeing police.
According to the Portland Police Bureau, a Gresham police officer began following the suspect’s car near Northeast 181st Avenue and Glisan after noticing that it matched the description of a vehicle allegedly involved in a series of robberies.
The suspect then sped west on Northeast Glisan Street at around 6:11 p.m., traveling “at a high rate of speed,” before crashing into a parked car and another vehicle with two people inside. The woman in the latter car died in the crash, and the other person was seriously injured.
The suspect’s car then collided with two more cars in eastbound traffic before coming to a stop. The two occupants of one of the cars that was struck drove themselves to a nearby hospital. The suspect, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody, and an investigation is ongoing. No charges have been announced yet.
