Armed suspects rob armored car outside Dollar General

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Police are on the hunt for three suspects following a daring afternoon robbery of an armored truck at a Holmesburg shopping center. The robbery took place at the intersection of Frankford Avenue and Ashburner Street, where authorities say the culprits made off with thousands of dollars and the driver’s firearm.

Officers arrived swiftly at the scene, just outside a Dollar General, where the armored vehicle had been parked. A witness, who captured a photo of the incident, described a tense moment as three masked individuals, one wielding a rifle, attempted to breach the Brinks truck. The truck’s security system, however, thwarted their entry.

“It was startling,” said the witness, who requested anonymity for safety reasons. “At first, I couldn’t believe I was watching a robbery unfold in broad daylight.”

Despite the failed attempt to access the truck’s interior, the suspects managed to steal approximately $3,000 from the driver. They also took his firearm before escaping in a silver Honda Accord.

The ease and calm with which the suspects executed their escape left bystanders shaken. “They drove off so calmly; it seemed like they knew exactly what they were doing,” said another observer, suggesting the thieves might be professionals.

This incident marks the third armored truck robbery in the area within a span of two weeks. On June 21, suspects seized $1.5 million in Port Richmond, and on June 26, another truck was targeted outside an Aldi store on Whitaker Avenue in Somerdale. Earlier in June, a robbery in Queens, New York netted $300,000, while another occurred in New Castle, Delaware.

Authorities are investigating potential connections between these heists, but no definitive links have been established. Meanwhile, local residents express growing concern over the apparent targeting of armored vehicles.

“These guys seem to know the routines,” remarked a resident. “It’s worrying to think how well-planned these robberies are.”

Despite the alarming nature of the crime spree, police report that no injuries have occurred in these incidents. The investigation remains ongoing as officers work to track down the suspects involved.
