Arrest made in running trail sexual assault

ORLANDO, FL – A 23-year-old man is behind bars after being accused of attempting to rape and strangle a woman on a popular trail in Orange County. The incident took place in July on the Little Econ Greenway near Yates Road, leaving the community on edge.

Authorities confirmed the arrest of Jacoby Tillman, who faces charges of attempted sexual battery, battery by strangulation, and false imprisonment. Orange County Sheriff’s investigators, acting on a tip and reviewing surveillance footage, apprehended Tillman and transported him to the county jail.

The attack occurred on July 25, when a woman, who was running alone, was assaulted from behind. According to the victim, she noticed a man following her as she returned to her car around 8 a.m. Moments later, she was grabbed and choked, causing her to black out. Upon regaining consciousness, she discovered her shorts and underwear had been removed.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video capturing a man matching the suspect’s description discarding the victim’s clothing over a fence near a local business. The footage showed the suspect wearing a white tank top, blue shorts, and black slides.

Witnesses and local runners expressed heightened concern, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and companionship while on the trail. Many advised against wearing headphones to remain aware of surroundings.

In a chilling confession to his girlfriend, Tillman reportedly admitted his intent was not to rape but to experience what it felt like to choke someone. The girlfriend recalled a previous violent encounter with Tillman, where he allegedly choked her until she lost consciousness.

Adding to the complexity, Tillman’s girlfriend received an accidental text from his mother, suggesting plans for him to flee to Texas. Despite the alleged escape plan, Tillman remains in custody at the Orange County Jail.
