GREENWOOD, IN – The quiet streets of Greenwood were rocked by a tragic discovery on Monday when police found the bodies of 33-year-old Karon Clay and her 3-year-old son, Karter, in their home. Clay, affectionately known as Ayerionna, was eight months pregnant at the time of her death.
The grim scene was uncovered during a welfare check initiated by the landlord, who noticed a shattered glass door at the back of the house. Describing the interior as disturbing, the landlord, who requested anonymity, noted a large amount of blood in an upstairs bedroom where the blinds appeared bent and disheveled.
Neighbor Hillary Hernandez, who recently moved to the area, expressed her unease about the incident. “It’s concerning,” she said. “You never expect something like this to happen in such a quiet neighborhood.”
Clay, a hairstylist and mother of three, had only been living in the house since May. Her eldest child did not reside with her. Despite her efforts to build a better life, court records reveal a complex past involving charges of prostitution, marijuana possession, and various traffic offenses. More recently, she faced charges of criminal recklessness with a weapon and criminal mischief.
Johnson County Coroner Michael Pruitt explained that autopsy results could take up to a month to determine the cause and manner of death. “We’re conducting a thorough examination to uncover any potential trauma or medical issues,” Pruitt stated.
The community is grappling with the loss, and Pruitt acknowledged the profound impact on those involved. “Investigating a case where a pregnant woman and child are killed is devastating,” he said. “Our role is to support families during one of the worst times of their lives by finding answers.”
