Boy Injured in Hit-and-Run Incident Involving Trash Truck at Tulsa School

A young, 11 or 12-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after being hit by a non-city trash truck.

The preteen was crossing the street in a crosswalk on school property at Boevers Elementary School near East 31st Street and South 129th East Avenue in Tulsa. The hit-and-run incident took place on Monday morning.

According to Sergeant Sean McGeough of the Tulsa Police Department, the truck side-swiped the boy, causing minor injuries. However, he was still taken to the hospital for a checkup.

McGeough said that the driver of the truck stopped and checked on the boy. Then, he drove off before the police arrived. Driving away from the scene turned the incident into a felony hit-and-run offense.

The TPD has identified the brown trash truck’s owner as a company that is not associated with the City of Tulsa.

The incident is still under investigation.
