MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI – A local businessman is expressing gratitude after narrowly escaping an ambush outside his home. New surveillance footage reveals the harrowing moment when a gunman opened fire as the victim attempted to leave his residence.
The incident occurred Tuesday morning when 61-year-old Eddie Joe, a respected figure in the community, was shot in the leg while trying to escape in his vehicle. Despite his injuries, Joe managed to drive across his property to evade further harm.
The attack unfolded around 10:15 a.m. as Joe was leaving his home in his black SUV. A shooter emerged from between two parked vehicles and began firing. In a desperate attempt to avoid the bullets, Joe drove away while the suspect continued to shoot.
Joe, who chose not to appear on camera for security reasons, recounted firing a single shot back to warn the assailant that he was armed. The gunman then fled, heading southbound, according to law enforcement.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident and are searching for additional suspects who may have been involved. Bullet holes in Joe’s SUV and shattered glass injuries to his arm were evident as the vehicle was towed for evidence collection.
Neighbor Terry Powers described the scene as police swarmed the area, urging residents to stay indoors. Powers expressed disbelief at such violence occurring in their community.
Eddie Joe, a successful entrepreneur who owns several gas stations across Metro Detroit, emigrated from Lebanon in 1981 and studied at Wayne State University. He is well-regarded for his hard work and community involvement.
Despite the attack, Joe remains focused on his family, expressing gratitude for surviving the ordeal. As a father of five, he looks forward to the arrival of his sixth grandchild.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.
