Car crashes upside down after falling from top floor of parking garage

CHEVY CHASE, MD – A dramatic incident unfolded Wednesday morning when a vehicle plunged from the top floor of a parking garage, leaving onlookers in disbelief. The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service promptly responded to the site on the 5400 block of Wisconsin Avenue after receiving reports of a car falling from the fifth level.

Police revealed that a woman mistakenly accelerated while attempting to park on the garage’s upper level, sending the car through a safety barrier and onto the street below, where it overturned. Witness Johny Lopez, an employee in a neighboring building, recounted his shock upon hearing the commotion.

“I just got ready to get my day started and I just saw my coworker and he told me to come real quick,” Lopez explained. He shared that they heard a loud noise and assumed that the gate had been broken.

However, upon reaching the ground level, Lopez and others discovered the vehicle lying upside down, with the woman inside seemingly unharmed, miraculously escaping with only minor injuries that later required hospital evaluation.

“She was just down there, and people were trying to console her. Luckily, it didn’t seem like she had any scratches or anything,” Lopez reflected with astonishment.

The incident prompted a temporary closure of the garage’s monthly parking entrance, though it reopened a few hours later. Lopez expressed relief for the outcome due to the dangers of the crash.

The unusual accident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of parking structures and the importance of vigilance when operating a vehicle.
