Charter school employee caught with child porn on his work computer

WEST MIAMI-DADE, FL – A former employee of Pinecrest Cove Preparatory Academy is facing severe charges after confessing to possessing and viewing child pornography while on the job. The unsettling revelation has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting swift action from both law enforcement and the school.

Michael Rodriguez, who served as the academy’s IT director, was apprehended following a tip-off from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Detectives traced illicit activity to an IP address linked to Rodriguez’s work computer, leading to his arrest. After being read his rights, Rodriguez admitted to viewing and transferring explicit material during work hours, deliberately avoiding security cameras by confining his activities to his office.

The gravity of the charges was underscored when Rodriguez turned over a USB drive filled with images of young girls. This discovery further compounded the charges against him, adding to the multiple counts of child pornography he now faces.

In court, Rodriguez’s family appeared somber as his attorney discussed their plans for his release. They intend to relocate, given the proximity of a nursery to their current residence, which poses a legal issue due to conditions that prohibit Rodriguez from being near locations with children.

Pinecrest Cove Preparatory Academy responded decisively, terminating Rodriguez’s employment and removing his information from their website. In a statement, the school emphasized its commitment to maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, expressing deep disappointment over the incident and extending thoughts to those affected.

The judge has imposed a stay-away order from the school as part of the bond conditions. Rodriguez is set to be transferred to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he will await further legal proceedings.

This case highlights the ongoing challenges schools face in safeguarding students and the critical role of vigilant monitoring and reporting in preventing such incidents.
