LAS VEGAS, NV – A local couple is urgently searching for new accommodations after a startling encounter with a trespasser left them shaken. The incident unfolded when a man, fleeing from law enforcement, forcibly entered their apartment by tearing through a metal security screen. This dramatic intrusion took place near Sierra Vista and Cambridge, catching the residents off guard during a seemingly normal afternoon.
The couple, who recently moved to the area, described the terrifying experience. At around 2 p.m., the tranquility of their day was shattered when the stranger broke into their home. Although the intruder was apprehended shortly after by police, the emotional impact of the invasion lingers, compelling them to consider relocating.
Gary Smitherman, one of the residents, recounted the harrowing moment captured on their Ring doorbell camera. He was with his wife and their ten-year-old Maltipoo, Princess, when the stranger made his entrance. Despite her small size and lack of teeth, the dog bravely barked at the intruder, who quickly retreated.
Smitherman believes the man chose their apartment at random in a desperate attempt to evade law enforcement. Although the door has since been repaired, the couple is unsettled by the ordeal and is determined to move.
This incident is not the first time their security camera has recorded suspicious activity. In recent weeks, the camera captured footage of individuals attempting to enter their apartment at odd hours. These unsettling events have only reinforced the couple’s decision to find a safer environment.
While the apartment complex has been supportive, the couple feels the location itself poses too great a risk. They are now facing the financial burden of another move, prompting Smitherman to set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of relocating.
Having only recently arrived in Las Vegas, Smitherman expressed disappointment over the unexpected challenges they have faced. He noted that every unfamiliar sound now heightens their anxiety, a stark contrast to the peaceful life they were accustomed to in Texas.
As the police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the intruder’s flight from law enforcement, the couple remains hopeful for a resolution that will allow them to regain their sense of security.
