ATLANTA, GA – A man was critically injured after being shot multiple times on Saturday night in Atlanta while assisting his daughter with her move, according to Atlanta authorities. The father was aiding his daughter in moving out from the home she shared with an allegedly abusive ex-boyfriend, the Atlanta Police Department revealed.
The incident occurred at a residence on West Lake Drive at around 9:47 p.m. Authorities reported that upon arrival, they discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. His condition was labeled as critical, and he was rushed to the hospital.
The police’s preliminary investigation has unveiled that the father and daughter were collecting the latter’s belongings when they were met by the male suspect, believed to be the daughter’s abusive ex-boyfriend. The suspect allegedly shot the father multiple times before the police arrived.
Law enforcement quickly apprehended the suspect, who was found still present at the scene. Investigators have confirmed that the suspect, now in police custody, is awaiting charges as the investigation unfolds.
Last Friday, just before this incident, APD Chief Darin Schierbaum had addressed the increasing trend of domestic violence-related homicides in Atlanta in a video message. He urged residents to assist authorities in combating domestic violence by learning to recognize signs of abuse.
