Deputies seek suspect in filmed sex assault attack

Investigators say a man exposed himself in a parking lot, then grabbed a woman from behind near a golf course before fleeing on a scooter.

WESTON, FL — Broward County deputies are searching for a man they say was captured on surveillance video exposing himself and attacking a woman Wednesday afternoon near a golf course in Weston before running to a scooter and leaving the area.

The case drew urgent attention Friday after the Broward Sheriff’s Office released video and a public appeal for help identifying the suspect. Investigators say the attack happened in daylight, near a residential and golf course area, and ended only after the woman fought back. The release of the footage signaled that detectives had not made an arrest by Friday and were turning to the public as they worked to identify the man and track his movements before and after the attack.

Deputies said the assault happened shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday near the 16500 block of Golf Club Road, close to Bonaventure Golf Club. According to investigators, the woman was sitting in the grass when the man came up from behind and grabbed her. The victim struggled with him, and the fight ended when the man stood up, put his shoes back on and ran. In a statement released through the sheriff’s office, investigators said the suspect had first been seen in an adjacent parking lot, where surveillance video showed him exposing himself and watching the area before moving toward the woman. The video, deputies said, appears to show him removing his shoes before the attack.

The sheriff’s office has released a basic description but not a name. Detectives described the suspect as a light-skinned man wearing a khaki hoodie and distinctive red-and-black pants. Authorities have not publicly said how old they believe he is, whether they think he lives in Weston or whether he was seen in the area before the assault. They also have not said whether the woman knew him. What investigators have said is that the man fled on a nearby scooter after the struggle. That detail has become one of the clearest pieces of the public description, along with the clothing visible on the surveillance footage. By Friday evening, officials were still asking anyone who recognized the man or the scooter to contact investigators.

The location added to the concern around the case. Weston is a suburban community in western Broward County known for neighborhoods, parks and golf courses, and the reported attack happened in the late afternoon rather than at night. That timing, together with the surveillance video, gave the investigation unusual visibility within hours of the public release. The sheriff’s office framed the footage as a key piece of evidence, showing both the moments before the attack and the suspect’s escape. Detectives did not disclose Friday whether additional cameras captured the scooter route, whether forensic evidence was recovered at the scene or whether investigators were checking nearby homes and businesses for more video. Those unanswered questions are likely to shape the next phase of the case.

No charges had been announced Friday because the suspect had not been identified publicly or taken into custody. The case remains in the investigative stage, with detectives asking for tips that could lead to an arrest. The sheriff’s office said information should be directed to Detective Michael Kravecz, while anonymous tips can be sent to Broward Crime Stoppers. Authorities also said tips leading to an arrest may qualify for a reward of up to $5,000. Investigators have not announced a court date, booking record or probable cause affidavit, all of which would usually follow an arrest. Until then, the public record is limited to the sheriff’s office description, the surveillance footage and the basic timeline released by deputies and local news outlets covering the case.

The video itself became central to how officials described the attack. Investigators said it shows the suspect moving slowly, surveying the area and closing in on the woman before grabbing her from behind. That sequence, along with the woman’s struggle and the suspect’s quick flight, has turned the footage into the clearest narrative of what happened. Local television reports echoed the sheriff’s office account and emphasized that the victim fought off the attacker. Authorities have not released details about her injuries, if any, and have not identified her, which is common in sexual assault investigations. Even with the video in hand, detectives are relying on someone recognizing the suspect’s clothing, build or scooter to move the case forward.

As of Friday night, the man remained at large, and the next major step in the case was his identification and arrest. Investigators had not announced a briefing schedule, but any update is likely to come once detectives identify the suspect or file charges.
