MILWAUKEE, WI – A DoorDash delivery driver is calling for changes to company policies after a harrowing encounter that left her car severely damaged. Faith Moore was allegedly followed home by a customer over an undelivered food order, resulting in $6,000 worth of damage to her vehicle.
Moore, whose car is essential for her job, is now unable to work. “I can’t make deliveries with my car in this condition,” she said, standing next to the shattered remains of her vehicle.
The incident began when Moore attempted to deliver an $18 fast-food order but was unable to complete it due to a lost internet connection with the DoorDash app. She decided to return home, only to be bombarded with phone calls from the customer.
Shortly after, Moore heard a knock on her door and saw, through a security camera, the customer vandalizing her car. “She picked up a brick and smashed my windshield,” Moore recounted.
Moore suspects the customer tracked her home using the app’s GPS, a feature she believes needs reevaluation. “I need a lawyer to push for changes at DoorDash,” she said, expressing concern over privacy and safety.
In response, DoorDash issued a statement condemning the customer’s actions as “uncalled for, unacceptable, and disturbing.” The company has banned the customer from its platform and is working with Moore to provide support.
The Milwaukee Police Department is actively investigating the incident and is seeking the suspect. “We hope justice is served,” Moore said, urging authorities to take the matter seriously.
This incident highlights the potential risks faced by gig economy workers and raises questions about the security measures in place to protect them.
Moore’s experience is a stark reminder of the challenges delivery drivers can face, and she hopes her story will lead to meaningful policy changes.
