Family gets held at gunpoint by armed robbers while trying to unload groceries

HOUSTON, TX – A family in southwest Houston became the victims of an attempted armed robbery. The attack took place while they were unloading groceries, resulting in a gunshot wound to a man’s foot on Friday night.

The incidents unfolded just before 11 p.m. on Shadow Crest Street in the Braeburn Glen neighborhood, not far from South Gessner Road and the Southwest Freeway.

Lieutenant Wilkens, a representative from the Houston Police Department, described how two or three armed men sporting masks accosted the family returning from grocery shopping. Wielding a rifle and pistol, they emerged from the side of their family’s yard, holding them at gunpoint. The father was shot in the foot during a struggle with the assailants as they tried to funnel the family into their house.

A member of the shot man’s family stated, “I’m scared. I had a bag with all my papers and they took that. They were asking for money.” She recounted that when the suspects attempted to force their way into the house, they pressed the gun against the father’s abdomen. Resisting, he managed to push the gun down, causing his foot to be shot.

The armed men retreated after firing a bullet into the front door of the house, as reported by HPD. This incident followed an earlier episode in which the family’s 21-year-old neighbor was shot in the back while trying to pull into his driveway with his girlfriend.

HPD reports show a black sedan had been obstructing his driveway, forcing him to park behind. He then noticed the presence of some people camouflaged within nearby bushes. Sensing danger, he attempted to speed off, leading to his car grazing the black sedan.

While fleeing the scene, one of the men fired into the car, hitting him in the back. His girlfriend managed to drive him to a local hospital, and he is still currently in critical condition.
