PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – Tensions rise in Maryland’s National Harbor as residents and businesses express their concerns following a fatal shooting over the weekend. The Prince George’s County Police Department discovered a man with multiple gunshot injuries in the MGM National Harbor Hotel and Casino parking garage. The incident occurred at around 5 a.m. on Saturday. Despite receiving medical aid, the individual later died from those injuries.
Preliminary police findings suggest a quarrel between the victim and their assailant took place before the shooting. This disturbing occurrence has prompted community members to question the efforts being made to combat crime and enhance safety at the National Harbor.
Steven Galloway, the general manager at Public House National Harbor, highlighted the increased prevalence of crime in the area, particularly among young people. Having served the community for five years, Galloway has observed a notable trend of escalation. He also noted that the recent brawl involving hundreds of teenagers, captured on camera, adversely impacts local businesses.
Galloway shared that in light of diminishing patronage, a curfew barring unsupervised minors from public spaces from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am on weekends has been helpful. However, the battle against crime persists.
With the perpetrator of Saturday morning’s shooting still at large, the police are uncertain whether they are dealing with a juvenile culprit.
