JOPPA, MD – A disturbing altercation in the boys’ restroom at Joppatowne High School, Joppa, Maryland, turned fatal on Friday when a 16-year-old student allegedly shot 15-year-old Warren Curtis Grant dead. Fellow students rescued the boy from the restroom, and he was swiftly attended by the school’s nursing staff and the principal. Despite being promptly airlifted to a trauma center, the victim could not survive.
Law enforcement authorities successfully apprehended the 16-year-old suspect, who sought to hide in residences nearby. The incident occurred on the suspect’s maiden day at the school during the current academic year.
The authorities suggest that one shot was fired in the tragedy, but investigators are still searching for the firearm used.
The alleged shooter is no stranger to law enforcement, having been involved in over ten incidents of varying capacities– including as a suspect, witness, or victim– since the start of this year.
The horrifying incident mobilized more than 100 police officers who swiftly arrived at the school situated roughly 35 miles northeast of Baltimore. Grieving this dreadful incident, Harford County Public Schools Superintendent Sean Bulson vowed to take all necessary steps to prevent a recurrence of such calamities. Notably, Joppatowne High School lacks metal detectors.
