BOSTON, MA – A shooting near a Dominican festival site in Boston’s Franklin Park on Sunday evening resulted in five injuries, as per police reports. Boston police are currently searching for the individuals responsible for the incident.
The five victims included three men and two women. They each suffered from non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. The police, however, have withheld the victims’ identities and ages.
In a press statement on Sunday night, Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox underscored the need for accountability for this appalling act of violence against the public. He added that the police were close to the festival site as it was winding down, and they heard the shots while directing pedestrians away from the park.
As of Monday, police updates did not include any details concerning the number of shooters involved in the incident. Commenting on the shooting and its effect on the community, Commissioner Cox lamented how this crime tarnished an otherwise successful event. He reiterated his call to the public for help and support in capturing the perpetrators citing, “this doesn’t really shouldn’t be happening in our city, not in this day and age.”
In recent years, Boston has won accolades for effectively reducing violent crime incidents. Last year’s statistics indicated 37 homicides, a number which has reduced considerably with only 10 recorded so far this year, according to police records.
